چکیده
Water is one of the most natural resources for all the living organisms, weather unicellular or multi cellular, since it is required for various domestic purposes irrigation, power generation and industries. In a freshwater system, the zooplankton forms are important group and constitute basic link of the food chain. Planktons are very sensitive to the environment they live in and any alteration in the environment leads to the changes in the plankton communities in terms of tolerance abundance, diversity and dominance in the habitat (Mathivonam, 2007). The planktonic study is a very useful tool for the assessment of water quality in any type of water body and also contributes to an understanding of the basic nature and general economy of the water body. Plankton occurs in all natural water as well as in artificial impoundments like ponds, tanks, reservoirs, irrigation cannels, etc. Plankton being the primary producer from the lowest trophic level in the food chain of fresh water ecosystem and plays a key role in fish culture. The number ad species of plankton serves to determine the quality of water body. The structure of aquatic community is important in monitoring the water quality. Risk assessment and mitigation measures on the heavy metal polluted water and sediment of the Kolleru Lake in Andhra Pradesh, India
The Kolleru Lake is a famous Ramsar wetland of international significance. In this study heavy metal contents in water and sediment samples are reported. It is found that certain potentially toxic metal ions like chromium (4.5-80 µg/L), copper (1-20 µg/L), manganese (1-313 µg/L) and zinc (1.2-57 µg/L) are present in variable quantities in the lake water. When normalized with respect to concentr...

This study was carried out to determine seasonal variation and zooplankton community structure in Karataş Lake, Southern Turkey. Zooplankton samples were collected seasonally between 2002 and 2003 in two stations using a zooplankton net of 55-µm mesh size. A total of 42 taxa were identified, including 19 taxa (45.2 %) Rotifera, 16 taxa (38.1 %) Cladocera, and 7 taxa (16.7 %). Copepoda. Among th...

متن کاملSources of suspended organic matter and selective feeding by zooplankton in an estuarine mangrove ecosystem as traced by stable isotopes
Between January 1995 and August 1996, suspended matter and zooplankton were sampled at different locations in a mangrove ecosystem located in the Gautami Godavari estuary and adjacent Kakinada Bay (Andhra Pradesh, India). Suspended matter was sampled at 13 different stations, and was found to have a highly variable carbon stable isotope composition, with δ13C values ranging overall between –30....
